Technical Details

The generator intelligently maps specific regions of a Minecraft skin texture onto the totem's 16×16 item texture (totem_of_undying.png). It reads the head, torso, arms, and legs sections, then composites them into a miniature character representation suitable for an item icon.

All processing happens client-side using HTML5 Canvas—your skin data never leaves your browser. The tool supports both classic (64×32) and modern (64×64) skin formats, automatically handling the layout differences. The generated resource pack includes proper pack.mcmeta formatting for compatibility across Minecraft versions 1.19.4 through 1.21.x.

Common Questions

Does this work on Bedrock Edition?

Not currently. This tool generates Java Edition resource packs. Bedrock Edition uses a different pack format that requires additional manifest files and structure.

Can I use this on multiplayer servers?

Yes! Resource packs are client-side only, so you can use your custom totem on any server. Other players will see the default totem unless they also install your pack.

Will this conflict with other resource packs?

Only if another pack also modifies the totem texture. The pack loaded last (higher in the selection list) takes priority. Use our Resource Pack Merger tool to properly combine multiple packs.

How does the share feature work?

Sharing creates a compressed URL token containing only the pixels you changed. When someone opens your link, it fetches the base skin and applies your edits—much smaller than sharing the full image.

Why does my totem look different than expected?

Some custom skins place features in non-standard positions. Use the face selector tool to manually choose the exact 8×8 pixel region you want for the head. The default position is (8,8).

About the Custom Totem Generator

This tool creates a personalized 16×16 Totem of Undying texture from any Minecraft Java Edition skin. It intelligently samples the head (with customizable face position), torso, arms, and legs, compositing them into a miniature character sprite that replaces the default totem texture.

Choose between two layout styles: New (modern stylized) or Old (compact legacy). Both outputs are fully compatible with Minecraft Java Edition, and you can select your game version to ensure the correct pack_format is used.

Everything processes client-side in your browser—no files are uploaded to our servers. The pixel editor lets you paint directly on the preview, with undo support and color picking. The share feature creates compact URLs by storing only changed pixels, making it perfect for collaboration.

Export Options

  • PNG: Download just the 16×16 texture file
  • Pack: Download a complete ZIP with proper folder structure and pack.mcmeta
